French Studio Visit.

Monday, March 31st, 2008

When I was in London I got to hang out with my good old pal and one of my favourite artists working in the UK. French.
After sharing a deep fried Mars bar between 3 people and all feeling ill - Thanks Stu! No, really! - I got to see what he’d been up to lately.

I also spotted this death country hand-made tape by Marcus Oakley there.

Check out French’s blog it’s updated almost daily with the good stuff.

By The Fireside

Monday, March 31st, 2008

While we were in London I got to see my old band play. It’s an almost totally new line up and Dan’s songwriting is better than ever as is the band. Look out for By The Fireside, (or listen here) they regularly play London and I know they will tour Australia next year.

Hamburg

Monday, March 10th, 2008

So Hamburg. Nothing beats time spent with Mr Stefan Marx. Love that guy.

We went to the Poodle Club, a raucous club near the port where they also have tiny art expos. Stefan had filled the whole gallery with fire scorch illustrations on large wood panels. They had kept all the pieces to decorate their back room. I felt an affinity with this character.

There was this gnarly and tight bowl built behind a squat on the main drag of the cool area.

Good man and faved conspirator, London’s PMH had a show at Vicious gallery open the previous weekend. They were still cleaning up from the UK bombardment when we arrived!

Berlin

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Got to Berlin and went straight over to Circle Culture to see the Sads play.

dsc04145sml.jpg

But passed this great tin foil bike on the way, I saw a couple of these over the weekend.

dsc04140sml.jpg

It was pretty packed, so people watched from behind on the other side of the glass.

dsc04147-2sml.jpg

Now we had become the number one groupies, we saw them the following night too!

dsc04150sml.jpg

Along with the Sads gigs, Aaron was in town to hang a Sister Corita show hot on the heels of the one we did at Monster Children Gallery in January. This one is at Circle Culture Gallery in the Mitte area.

dsc04151sml.jpg

This shot is of Circle Culture Gallery director and snappy dresser Johann, our ever-gracious host and long time pal Claus Heuwinkel, sound maker extroadinare and scorpio Dave Stone, the beautiful other half to the (what will be) IzRock Empire, and far right multi-talented art-maker-happener Mr Aaron Rose.
