Zine Fair at the Museum Of Contemporary Art, Sydney

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

So Sunday was the zine fair and we loaded up our tables.
Tristan with Serps store to my left, DL and HeSheItTheyI to my right and Mark of Making Ends (among many other de noms) fame next along.

This is the hall where it all went down. This is actualy a quiet moment. I didn’t leave the stall, save a 5 min urination break, for 7 hours - and it felt like half hour!

We like photography. Dave is trying to shoot the fella with the jumper that reads ‘Astronomy is looking up’. Gold.
Garry Trinh had the most sort after zines on my table

Check the one-off hamburger zine in the foreground by Steph Anderson. It came with a bag of sides including onions and pickles. And a fly!

These aren’t Conor’s real eyes, he had his shut in this shot, but I needed to put it in as it’s the only shot of the day I got of him. He’d just got back from Melbourne and the success of his show at the CCP. What was even more successful was getting a ring on the finger of his ‘to be’ - the beautiful Amanda Maxwell. So damn tops!

More Euro Shots

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

I was looking through my other camera and found these shots from the European IzRock selling and launching tour.

There are so many confusing things about this sign.

This is Hotel Stefan Marx. Note the branded Manchester (Manchester for those abroad is a strange name that Australian department stores give to bedware/linen)

Bill Henson Shut Down

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Paedophilia or small-mindedness and witch hunting.
Bill’s show was shut down before opening last night. Hot debates ensued.

Localism Launch Sunday!!!

Monday, May 19th, 2008

We threw the launch party at Michael Joyce’s Sedition on Sunday afternoon. Thanks for the support Michael.
And if any one needs a haircut in Sydney this is the place. 254 Victoria St, Darlinghurst. He’s been there supporting the weirdo scene for 12 years and I’ve been going there for years. A very special place in Sydney.

This was my piece for the show. Wipe your feet to this.

Artists.

img_0294sml.jpg

Douglas Lance Gibson made this video that included every artist giving a hello and goodbye.

Some people turned up.

More artists joining forces and creating masterplans.

We had some amazing avante noise jazz (obviously I am a bit behind on my genre classifications). These guys were amazing and are playing again at Sedition this Tuesday. Apostacy - check it. And yes that is a Mount Franklin bottle in his sax!

Just the mouthpiece and the receiver. So minimal and out!

Michael’s serious installations.

Then while disposing of the rubbish (thoughtfully) I came across this amazing sky tree.

Thanks to everyone who made it down. It was a great night.

Localism Zine Launch Set Up

Monday, May 19th, 2008

For the Localism zine launch on Sunday we  hung works from the publication the night before.

img_0282sml.jpg

Dave fitting some works to the inside. We hung the works back and front of the security grill in the front window.

img_0276sml.jpg

Mark Swept by to help us hang, but this photo looks funnier to me if I think of him in him crim outfit scaling through the bars to rob the place.

img_0277sml.jpg

Was freaking great to have Gideon in town. Thanks for the help my man.
Here he discusses the finer points with Michael who is the owner of Sedition Barber Shop where we had the launch.
Check out Gideon’s amazing work here, but of course you already saw that great stuff.
Shynola.com just in case.

Final touch was the placement of the publication in the front window.

When Communication was a Tin Can on a String

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Douglas created a communication device for what was to be a project for Dave and my latest zine project about community.
But became something of it’s own and will be a zine in it’s own right real soon.

So we helped him put a 100 metre line from Dave and Steph’s place to Tristan and Age’s place 7 stories up.

dsc04492sml.jpg

This scenario was hairy, we almost killed some commuters. As Mark said - what a few years back would have seemed like harmless fun, as adults now feels criminal.

Dougie and his contraption.

dsc04500sml.jpg

I think this was a business call.

dsc04504sml.jpg

Perhaps the most ingenious and spontaneous part of this project (also add useful!) was Steph turning the contents of the tin can into delicious Hommus!
